Welcome to Teaser Tuesday, where I share snippets from new and past releases and works-in-progress, and occasionally cajole author buddies into doing the same.
What a week it’s been!
I’m still recovering from the brilliance that was the Romance Writers of Australia annual conference. This year, with 2020 being the crazy-pants thing that it is, the conference went fully online.
Now, I luuuuurve RWA conferences. Every year, the start of August finds me completely hyped because I’m about to fly or drive off to some part of Australia to hang with my tribe, spend four days losing my voice from talking too much, partying myself to exhaustion and having my mind blown by new and cool writing stuff.
This year’s conference was to be held in Fremantle, Western Australia. Sadly for the conference organisers, it became apparent quite early on in the COVID crisis that an in-person conference wouldn’t be possible. But clever people that they are, they pivoted (such a trendy word!) and hooly-dooly, did they pivot. Prima ballerina pivoting. The conference was fantastic.
It kicked off last Wednesday and went right through until Sunday night. I’m still processing all the amazing things I learned. From Liz Pelletier’s all day Growth Hacking workshop, to Heather Graham’s session on The Things We Do with Words, Rachel Bailey’s Sparkling Dialogue workshop, Michael John Barnes’ Dynamic of Handgun Shooting, right through to Anna Hackett’s wonderful closing speech and everything in between (and there was a lot), the conference was a mind spinner.
What a credit to the organising committee and the RWA. And, for the first time in years, I managed to not lose my voice!
Honestly, if you have any aspirations to be a writer, RWA is a must-join. I have said many times that without RWA I wouldn’t be published, and I still stand by that. So if you want to learn, meet like-minded people, have unprecedented access to the publishing industry and its professionals, and make friends for life, RWA is your home.
Right, Teaser Tuesday time.
Can you believe we’ve only TWO WEEKS until Serenity’s Song releases? Soooo close!
I guess it goes without saying that I’m going to be teasing you with snippets from the book from now on in. Teasing is, of course, what Teaser Tuesday is all about.
So, without further ado, here’s a short excerpt from Serenity’s Song where Serenity finds herself perving on Jesse. Again. Can’t say I blame her.
.
At lunchtime, Serenity loaned Jesse one of the salon’s umbrellas and watched him jog across the road to the bakery. He had an easy lope, athletic. His brother Jack was a handsome man, but he was also a hulk. Jesse’s leanness was far more appealing. She could imagine twining her legs around his, the clench of his bum as …
She stepped away and pressed the back of her hand to her brow. Maybe this heat was the start of a winter cold. She nearly hoped so. Lust she could cope with. Stupid crush-love? That was something else.
