Welcome to Teaser Tuesday, the tantalising blog series where I share snippets from my works-in-progress, up-coming releases and published novels, and occasionally let good writing buddies take the reins.
This week, to celebrate April’s Rainbow (have I mentioned enough that it’s the book of my heart?) hitting virtual shelves and being available for pre-order, I think we’ll have a snippet from this story.
I last shared a piece of April’s Rainbow on Teaser Tuesday on December 1st but sadly, in a perfect storm of website stuffuppery and server corruption, that post is now gone, along with every other one dating back to the end of November. There was much wailing in the Hein house when these losses were discovered, let me tell you. Nevermind, I can only learn from my errors and move on, and keep creating more new and fun things for you to read.
Please enjoy this small snippet from the scene where Tristan first meets April.
The screen door opened with a bang. A man came striding out. April stepped out onto the verandah, her hands clutched low below her belly and wrestling with one another.
The man saw me and faltered, then his stride became even more purposeful as he crossed the yard. I glanced past him to April. She held my gaze, worry crumpling her face.
‘You must be Tristan,’ he said, hand held out.
I nodded and shook. His grip was firm, and he took my elbow with his other hand. The sort of double-handed greeting that politicians use to get people on side. Distrust surged through me in a wave. This man wasn’t April’s friend. Which sure as hell meant he wasn’t mine.
